Chance Manufacturing Flying Bobs.

Each vehicle had 2 passenger capacity. The lap bar had a magnetic central bar that locked down when in use. To unlock the lap bar, the central bar had to be picked up so it folded on itself allowing the lap bar to lift. The Herschell version of the ride didn't have seat belts. Ride owners added their own type of belt using a cable wrapped in duct tape and a hook. Thick rubber bands attached to the front and rear of the car allowed the side to side swinging of the vehicle.

These photos show details of the bob cars and the mechanics of the ride's hub. Notice how one end is higher than the other in the hub. This is part of the undulating track the wheels followed. The red bar attached to the lap bar is folded in the second photo so the lap bar is raised. The fourth photo shows a section of the ride's framework.

Chance's latest version of the Fying Bobs is called the Alpine Bobs.  There are other versions: Rock 'n' Roll and Swingin' Safari. Previous versions included the Olympic Bobs which also operated at Crystal Beach.
