Somebody sent us these cool old photos of the sand dune being cleared for the ballroom at Crystal Beach circa 1923.
 We thought we'd share them with you.

These workers may have been digging in the sand to make way for the breakwall, which was put in place prior to the ballroom being built. The promenade was laid after the breakwall was finished.
